Videos!

10 Nov

I know I’m the absolute worst with this blog lately. I think about what I would love to be writing nearly every day, but the sun rises and sets far too quickly lately.

We have moved to a new apartment.

Things are going really well.

Asher is the most precious 3 year old ever to have lived.

Phillip is wonderful and a hard worker.

I’m learning lots of German and feeling very settled and comfortable in my daily routine (which hopefully doesn’t mean something is about to be thrown out of whack!).

My parents will be here to visit us in a few days and we are SO excited!

And here are some videos:

This one cuts out because of my darn phone capacity, but he will often just randomly start “breathing” like this, which means he’s pretending to be Darth Vader.

And my current favorite:

Asher is super in to talking about dreams right now. He asked us not too long ago what dreams were (after hearing the word in a song). We explained dreams to him and then started giving him examples of dreams, which really just means we started making up ridiculous stories of things about which he “might” dream. The dreams usually start out with something that he knows and understands, and then something very strange will happen, and then the ‘dream’ always ends with us saying that he wakes up in bed and asks himself “Was that real?! Nooooo, it was a dream!” He has refused to try, but today he “talked about” two dreams for me. I got the second one on camera and I love it! I’ll write a transcript below, in case you can’t understand him.

“What if you have a dream that you were doing make-up on, and suddenly your make-up gets REAL. And your make-up talks to you real. And it says “hello Bre. Hi.” And you say “Hi…What?! That’s not real!” …and you say: “I’m in my room… was that real? Noooo, it was a dream!”

Wanguage.

This video cut out a bit, but all that you miss is me asking the question: “What language does your friend Mateo speak?”  Well, that and the ending where it cut off because my phone storage is too teeny.

And this was him at the glasses shop waiting while his frames were being adjusted yesterday. He is very in to playing pretend right now and this is one of his current go-to personas:

Hahahahahaha I love it! Whenever he hears someone say something he doesn’t understand he always asks “Hey… what he speaks?” He’s really become interested in languages lately. He knows that we speak English at home and that most of our neighbors speak German at home. Except for his little friend Nate, who is from the UK and, according to Asher, “Nate speaks Engwish wif an accident.” hahahaha He means an “accent,” of course. Though he typically responds to German in English, he responds appropriately which lets us know that he understands. He uses his teeny little voice to say “Gruezi!” to all the passers-by when we’re out walking and he says “d-d-danke!” whenever someone gives him something when we’re out. He also does one heck of a robot impression and likes to pretend that he is a kitten or puppy, who apparently have extremely high-pitched voices. lol Oh, Asher! He’s nothing if he’s not entertaining!

Asher videos

9 Sep

Hi, All!

Life is busy. You get the drill. But here are a few cute recent vids of our boy.

In his boxer briefs conversing with an older neighbor who was working outside of our cracked window. You can’t really hear what she’s saying until the end when she says “Bye bye Asher,” but just hearing a little bit of what he said to her makes me smile.

Last weekend we were so happy to get to spend some time with our dear friends the Galiks. Naomi is 2.5 months younger than Asher and they are, in their own words, best friends. They play so well together that it is unbelievable! Not only do they just enjoy entertaining each other, but they are SO incredibly polite to each other! They offer each other turns, say “please” and “thank you” and “you’re welcome” and “excuse me” and “Oh, excuse ME.” hahaha They are kindred spirits and we are thankful for Naomi (and her parents and sister!). Anyway, here they are playing together (and wearing matching shirts!):

And finally, I just think this is cute. I love conversing with him. hehehe

Burned fingers, grocery store, and tight pants

11 Jun

More Asher videos! Now that I have a good phone, expect lots of videos. Life is so easy with an iPhone!

I know that Asher burning his fingers on the grill is old news, but I found this video from a few weeks ago and wanted to share it to show just how adorably pitiful he was. His face is stuff puffy from crying (for over an hour!) about his poor little fingers, and he was trying hard to make sense of what had just happened.

*Sigh* That was only the first or second time we used our new grill and, though we warned him not to go near it he just had to see for himself. It was a sad night, but we think he learned a valuable lesson. Thankfully it was not worse!

Okay, next — This one cracks me up. Asher was walking around the grocery store like a boss singing a little tune. Everyone was smiling at him as he strutted around, perusing merchandise as if he hadn’t a care in the world. I grabbed my phone to film him singing… and then he walked near some refrigerators and got a bit dramatic.

One more — He and I watched Jimmy Fallon’s “tight pants” videos with Will Ferrell and J-Lo this morning and then we both walked around singing “Tight pants” all day. For however cute I think this is, I just want him to say the word “on” at the end of one of the phrases — eeeeeek!!! I said it for him a few times and he got upset with me, so I just kept my mouth shut and let him sing the same thing over and over again as much as he wanted. Behold: Asher’s rendition of tight pants:

Asher videos!

11 Jan

It’s time for more videos of my precious Asher!

He doesn’t watch much TV these days, but he certainly enjoys the bits that he watches. In particular, around Christmas he was watching the How to Train your Dragon Christmas show on Netflix. There is a part where a girl makes a disgusting drink called “Yak nog,” and the main guy, Hiccup, accidentally drinks it. He holds it in his mouth until she leaves and then he spits it out. Asher watched this show several times and Hiccup spitting only seemed to get more and more hilarious to him. It didn’t matter if we were sitting watching it with him, or if he was alone in the room watching, he laughed HARD every single time.

He has developed quite the sense of humor lately. He’s big in to pretending to be asleep and then laughing about how hilarious it is that he was not actually asleep. He just randomly started doing it on the bus the other day and was quite pleased when people all around started laughing at his super loud teeny guy fake snore.

Here he is just being super entertaining to us. Lately anything dangly or wiggly he’ll grab and shout “it’s a seahorse!” and then he’ll play with it and be super delighted. He had already done that and I asked him to do it again, which you can hear I think, but his happiness is no less genuine. haha

We are all very proud that Asher can now put his glasses on all by himself! Phil and I were looking forward to this milestone so we wouldn’t have to worry about him so much with the glasses. Now he does it just for fun! …and instructs us to watch carefully when he does it…? hahaha

He’s vocal about which language he wants to speak and when. He’ll tell us that it’s time to read in German or English and he’ll tell us when he wants to or doesn’t want to speak in a certain language. Here we asked him something in German and, in true moody-dramatic-Asher-style, he just got mad and started making demands.

I thought I had one more but I can’t find it now, so I’ll try to post it soon. He is growing and changing and talking and making the world better and better with each little breath he takes. Enjoy these videos!

Newest installment of Asher videos

20 Nov

I figured it was time for another big dose of Asher videos! I have been recording him a lot lately (“lately” = his entire life), because he is hilarious, adorable, and kind of a pill. I love that he talks so much now! It’s late, so I’m going to get right to it…

First, he’s preferred to sleep with his “Saahh wight” (Star light) on at night lately, since he seems to be a little bit freaked out by the dark these days. So after we read books and turn off the light, he gets to turn his star light on and EVERY TIME he responds exactly like this. I love it!

Next, his obsession with playing “cahs” increases by the day. He still mostly just pushes them around, but lately he’s started wanting to make McQueen, Mater, and Finn (from Cars 2) talk with each other. Neither Phil nor I know why he started making them need help, but he is very serious about having his cars need help and then help each other. “Needing help” basically means that they get stuck in the air some how and need their friend to help them get down. It’s silly and precious!

We never know what we’re going to get when we go in to Asher’s room to get him after he’s been sleeping. The other day, I stumbled in (I’m not a morning person) and he was sitting up in his bed and shouted out “I NEED A CUPCAKE!” He has only tasted one or two cupcakes in his life and he did not even like them. Another time recently as soon as I opened the door after his nap he started singing “Goootsie! Gootsie! Gootsie mittahnaaan!” which is a song we sing in our music class that translates to “hello! Hello! Hello everyone!”  This morning when I went in he immediately started yelling that he needed a “suh-wack” (snack) of “Bah-duh and peedoh buddoh” (Banana and peanut butter). I was pretty out of it (again, I’m not at all a morning person), but I obliged since that’s a pretty good thing to eat first thing in the morning. As soon as I made it, though, he started SCREAMING “NOOOOO!!! NO!!! NO BAH-DUH AND PEEDOH BUDDOH!!!!” Then I’d say he didn’t have to eat it and he’s scream “NOOOO! I WANT THAT BAH-DUH AND PEEDOH BUDDOH!!! IT’S MIIINE!!!” Shoowee. I tried to calm him, but he ended up back in his bed for a few minutes to calm his little self down this morning. Regardless of what he does, though it is always hilariously surprising. Anyway, a few days ago as soon as I walked in he started doing this:

He’s not all sweet, though. We’ve been seeing glimpses of how his stubbornness and feistiness will be manifesting themselves in his little life. This is mild compared to how bad it can get, but you get the idea. Most of the time we ask him to talk nicely and most of the time he’ll correct himself and be more polite… but then there are the times when all you can do is provoke him and then laugh a little bit, amiright?

And finally, this is part of a much longer video where I was trying to get him to talk to me. I don’t remember all of what was going on here, but I was trying to get him to move to where the glasses were. The reason I’m posting this part of the video is because I LOVE the way he is propped up on his hand watching when I turn the camera around. This is a great representation of his personality: Laid back, easily charmed (and charming), happy, giggly, silly, and always demanding something. haha

That’s all for now! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. 🙂

“Gwasses fichst!”

8 Nov

This is just a quick update to let everyone know that Asher is now wearing his new lenses! He and I met up with Phil in the city Wednesday evening to get his glasses “fixed.” We didn’t want to tell him he would be getting new glasses, since the frames are the same. But we also wanted to tell him that something was going to change about his glasses. We dropped off the frames, ran a quick errand, then came back and his glasses were ready! Here is when the lady put them on:

I was so excited that I started chatting away when I should have just let him look around and think on his own, but I still like the video because you can tell that he notices that he can see better! Look at his little smile and the way he’s looking at things as soon as they go on his face. He looked up at the lady that always helps us and smiled, probably thinking she is some sort of genius. 🙂

With the prescription being so much stronger, I kind of expected a bit of a problem, but he has not taken the glasses off since Wednesday (except to sleep, of course)! He has said several times randomly “Gwasses fichst (‘fixed’)!” The night we got home after picking up his new lenses Asher sat down to play with his cars and he picked up and thoroughly inspected every single one of them like it was the first time he had seen them. He would look at the front, look at the side, look at the other side, look at the back, the top, the bottom, the wheels — everything. It took a very long time for him to look through all of his cars, but Phil and I were just as interested in watching him look at the cars as he was in “seeing” them. Good stuff!

Phil and I have still noticed Ash looking out of the side of the lens a little bit, but the prescription is still very new to him  so we’re hoping that is simply a habit that he will stop soon.

He’s been a little bit better overall the last few days, but still a bit moody. He’s been tired a lot, which could be due to adjusting to his to new lenses or it could just be because he is a toddler. I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not, but he’s been waking up super early the last couple of weeks. Phil has been overloaded with work the past couple weeks and I’ve been dealing with a very precious, but very naughty and overwhelming little boy for the past few weeks, so waking up at 6 really isn’t something we’re interested in doing. I think we could all use a grandparent or two to come out here to play with and love on Asher for a while *hint* *hint*

Just as a side note — Asher busted his lip this morning while we were at our German conversation group. He was leaning on the side of a little bin of toys and leaned a little too hard I guess and flipped the bin up and into his lip. I thought it was his teeth first! Though it’s shocking to see your kid’s mouth dripping with blood, I was glad when I realized it was just his lip. Well, lipS plural if you believe in two lips, which I do. He busted the inside part of his top lip and a little bit of the outside and a little bit of the corner of his bottom lip. It’s not nearly bad enough for stitches or anything, but it did bleed a lot. This was after I had been getting frustrated with him for wallowing on my lap and refusing to leave me alone for 2 seconds to read my German, so then I felt like a terrible person for forcing him to go play with the bin of toys that injured his little mouth. Shortly after he did that, he was looking at something in his hand while running full speed ahead (never a good idea) and literally ran his face RIGHT into the corner of a table (Still at the conversation group, mind you) and made his nose bleed. Not a “nosebleed,” but his nose was bleeding. He was pitiful! Then we came home so he could try to commit suicide while sitting on the toilet and then scream at me for making him a nice lunch before completely passing out. That was three hours ago. Here’s hoping he wakes up in a better mood!

Now I’m roaming into the complaining zone, which I don’t want to do so I’ll go ahead and end for now. Phil and I are both watching Asher like a hawk with these new lenses. Hopefully things will just continue to improve, but I’m sure I’ll be posting about it either way! 🙂

Ashuh sing

12 Oct

Hi! It’s me here! Third post in a week?! I’m making up for lost time.

Here is a fun video of Asher exploring his new interest of singing. He’s a bit of an eclectic, as you’ll notice. He starts out with Ylvis’ youtube hit “The Fox,” then goes into the timeless “Jesus loves me” (which I accidentally cut a little short in my editing), and the heads into a pre-haircut evening on which he delved into a simpler time with Sinatra’s “The way you look tonight.” Excuse the plum juice dripping from his mouth when he’s in his chair. 😉
